Staff Sgt. Luciano Vera, USA
Luciano Vera is a Military Motion Media student at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Vera has served in the U.S. Army as a Public Affairs Broadcast Sergeant for over eight years. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 2008 through January 2009 while assigned to Delta Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Psychological Operations Group out of Fort Bragg, N.C. Prior to Fort Bragg Vera was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division Public Affairs Office as the Broadcast Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge from 2005 through 2007. His first duty assignment was at Fort Bliss, Texas from 2002 through 2005 as the Broadcast Operations Specialist in charge of on-post TV operations and working with local and national media. The highlights of this assignment include escorting NBC, CBS, and the Albuquerque Journal to the start of combat operations for Operation Iraqi Freedom, and deploying to record holiday messages from the troops in the middle east for TV stations in the U.S., and being assigned to the 507th Maintenance Company Prisoners of War as a Public Affairs Specialist and escort upon their release from their captors.
Vera’s interest include, running, working out, movies, sleeping, and watching the news. He has a Siberian Husky named Mya.
He was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and has nine brothers and sisters.
